Other Information
Resident Assistants (RAs) are para-professional members of the Residence Life staff. The RA is often the first person that a student meets when he or she arrives on campus. RA responsibilities include serving as a resource for resident students, organizing and hosting educational activities and programs, performing on-call coverage responsibilities, confronting and documenting policy violations, serving as a role model, and performing various administrative and housing functions, such as opening and closing the residential facilities. Since Resident Assistants are also students, they are able to serve as peer counselors to their fellow resident students.
In addition, since all RAs are upperclass students, they are able to share the value of their experience and knowledge of University resources. RAs are carefully chosen through a selection process in the Fall semester for the next academic year, and undergo rigorous training prior to students' arrival in the Fall. RAs are supervised by the Resident Directors and the Director of Residence Life.
