Bachelor of Science
Bachelor of Arts
Interdisciplinary Studies is a truly unique degree program because it allows students to develop an individual course of study by combining classes from two academic disciplines. Each Interdisciplinary Studies major works closely with faculty members to create a custom program that transcends traditional majors offered at the college.
Typically, students investigate a course of study that requires an interdisciplinary approach to a theme selected by the students themselves. Themes may include a set of problems, an idea, or a period of study. Some suggested interdisciplinary themes include aesthetics and artistic expression, international/global studies, environmental issues and policy, regional developmental and policy, and American studies. At the end of each semester, students meet with the program director to present a self-assessment and to evaluate their progress.
Interdisciplinary Studies majors may choose to pursue either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree. The Bachelor of Arts requires the completion of a foreign language through at least the intermediate level.
