Experiential Learning

College is a time to explore the world and  discover your values, interests, skills, and abilities. At Stevenson, classroom experiences will provide you with knowledge and skills, while Experiential Learning will allow you to apply what you've learned in the outside world with the assistance of Career Services. The pairing of Experiential Learning and traditional, classroom-based learning greatly enhances a student's college experience.

Stevenson enthusiastically supports this dynamic educational philosophy. We hope you will participate in the many experiences that Learning Beyond can offer you:

Study Abroad - To see the world, to leave expectations behind, and to redefine yourself. That's what it is to study abroad. Stevenson students have travelled to Botswana, Austrailia, England, the Dominican Republic, and many other exotic locations.

Service Learning - Students become engaged by participating in activities which allow them to help others. Whether they mentor in Baltimore City, travel to New Orleans to build homes, or venture to Haiti to work in health clinics, students will be able to try new things and connect campus with community.

Campus Based Research -  Work with a faculty member on a study or research project tailored to your interests such as the impact of enzymes on diabetes or voting patterns of different age groups.

One Credit Option - Enable professors and students to research topics such as the demise of the American Stock Exchange or the wonders of a Utah desert in summer through trips, interviews, and surveys.

Honors - Stevenson encourages students to go above and beyond their required academics.  Through the Honors Program, students gain valuable insight in their fields of study while pushing themselves to greater academic heights.

Internships - You can earn credit as you gain hands-on experience practicing the skills you have acquired from your coursework through opportunities such as internships, supervised teaching, and clinical experience.

The Washington Center - Experience a once-in a-lifetime internship opportunity open to SU students in all majors.

Other Experiential Learning Opportunities - Learn on a trip, at a museum, or at a political event. Many classes at Stevenson give students the chance to learn outside the classroom.

Volunteer Projects/Interest -   Stevenson is committed to addressing community issues while enriching the student experience.  Through volunteer projects like “Build Community Day” and student service clubs, the Learning Beyond Office takes on the most pressing needs of communities in and around Baltimore.
